Arts centres Lake House This historic building located at Fred Thomas Drive, Takapuna is administered by a Trust Board and supported by the council. It is a base for a ceramic studio, a bronze sculptor, The Stable Printmakers group, a childrens art group, and the office of the North Shore Competitions Society and the Shore Arts Forum. Mairangi Arts Centre The Mairangi Arts Centre is a community arts centre dedicated to education and fostering growth in the visual arts in North Shore City. The centre is administered by a trust board and supported by the council. The education programme offers a wide range of classes, including painting, pottery, sculpture, printmaking, craft courses and childrens classes and holiday programmes. The PumpHouse The PumpHouse, on the edge of Lake Pupuke, is a theatre and exhibition gallery. The acoustics at The PumpHouse are superb and the raked auditorium, with seating for 192, provides an uninterrupted view of the stage. There is also an amphitheatre at the back of the Green Shed with a covered stage and seating for about 185. The Depot Artspace Supported by the council, The Depot Artspace at 28 Clarence St, Devonport, is a community-based arts centre with a focus on community participation, employment and youth initiatives in the arts. Arts in this case encompass all media including painting, music, sculpture and performance. The Depot encourages and promotes exhibitions, workshops, concerts and opportunities to work, practise and develop skills and talents in the arts. It has two gallery spaces, artists workspaces, a soundproof room and a recording studio, and a gallery space available for rent at a low cost. Northart The council-supported Northart in the Northcote Town Centre, focuses on visual arts. The exhibition gallery has changing exhibitions which highlight the diverse range of art forms created by artists living in North Shore City and elsewhere in New Zealand. The centre is opposite the Northcote Library, at the bottom of Ernie Mays Street in Northcote Shopping Centre, and is open seven days a week from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free.
