School holiday swimming reminder
July 2, 2008
Parents considering taking their children swimming during the upcoming school holidays are reminded to use North Shore Leisure’s (NSL) Birkenhead or Takapuna facilities due to its Glenfield pool being closed for routine maintenance and tiling.
NSL Glenfield Centre Manager, Rochelle McIntyre, said while regular users were aware of the maintenance; it was timely to remind casual visitors that its swimming facilities were temporarily closed.
The pool is expected to reopen on July 14.
"The last thing we want is for parents to organise a trip to Glenfield and find our aquatic facilities are closed,” said Ms McIntyre.
"Both Birkenhead and Takapuna swimming facilities will be open as normal. Opening times are listed on council’s website or people can phone the NSL centres direct and/or Actionline on 486 8600."
Meanwhile, NSL’s School Holiday Programme seems to be a hit, with spaces filling up fast in Glenfield, Birkenhead and East Coast Bays.
Manager – Events, City Promotion & Tourism, Jennah Wootten, says activities are varied from pizza making to Fear Factor challenges, arts & crafts, musicals and carnival days to name a few.
"North Shore City is committed to ensuring there is a varied quality level of school holiday programmes available for its community and the activities available through North Shore Leisure are a fine example of this," she said.
Ms Wootten says parents can download versions of the holiday programmes online at www.northshoreleisure.co.nz or call 09 444 6340 for more information. The holiday programme runs between July 7 and 18.
