Policies for liaising with Maori
|
Policies Consultation Policy Council’s consultation policy recognises its obligations in terms of section 81 of the Local Government Act 2002 -
It also acknowledges the requirement that any significant decision affecting land or a body of water must take into account the relationship of Maori and their culture and traditions with their ancestral land, water, waahi tapu, valued flora and fauna and other taonga.
Tangata Whenua Policy For consultation under the Resource Management Act 1991, Council recognises five iwi groups - Ngati Whatua, Ngati Paoa, Nga Puhi, Te Kawerau A Maki and the Hauraki Maori Trust Board. Memoranda/Agreements Agreement There is an agreement between Council (North Shore Libraries) and Awataha Marae Library. This agreement provides that the Council will assist Awataha Marae Library with cataloguing, processing and inventory services. In addition, the Council (with the support of Datacom Systems Ltd) provides and maintains a PC at the library. Proposed Memoranda of Understanding Council (through North Shore Libraries) has a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Awataha Marae Library recording the spirit of partnership between the two organisations. This MoU will be further developed and formalised in due course. Council has established an Iwi Liaison Group with several iwi/hapu to address matters relating to water services issues and will seek to develop a MoU with the above five iwi with regard to on-going issues. |
