A new direction for stormwater management

Stormwater Disposal Policy

This policy identifies our requirements for stormwater disposal from private property and presents the methods for doing so. This needs to be considered in conjunction with the Approved Outfall requirements (see below).

Objectives

  • Minimise the effects of stormwater run-off, from new or re-development, on other properties and the environment.
  • Prevent rather than fix stormwater problems.
  • Sustainable use of natural resources.

Approach

  • Establish preferred stormwater disposal methods.
  • Define requirements for each method of stormwater disposal.
  • Use the Approved Stormwater Outfall Policy to control stormwater discharge.

Benefits

  • More certainty for developers regarding stormwater disposal requirements.
  • Reduced effects from stormwater run-off on neighbouring properties, streams and the environment.

Implications

  • Affects anyone who carries out building work in the city.
  • Cost implications could range between $0 and $20,000 per site if/when development occurs, depending on circumstances. (Note that this would be the same as that required by the Approved Stormwater Outfall Policy, NOT additional to it).
