Local Operations Handbook for Temporary Traffic Management

How to set up a safe worksite on the road
There is a guide to help you when applying for a RON (Road Opening Notice). It is called the Local Operations Handbook for Temporary Traffic Management. It is used by contractors on large projects but it is also useful for smaller projects where people need to carry out work on or under a road, and where they must avoid disrupting traffic.

Based on TNZ Code of Practice Temporary Traffic Management (2003) (COPTTM)
This code applies to all work on roads controlled by the North Shore City Council November 2003 –Version 1

North Shore City Council, like all road controlling authorities in New Zealand, has to ensure that all work sites on roads under its control are as safe as possible for workers, motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

This Handbook is a summary of the Transit New Zealand Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management (2nd edition) but in response to increasing industry concerns includes some amendments to assist with improved temporary traffic management in urban streets. It is not a substitute for the Transit New Zealand Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management, which must be complied with except where alternative amendments are stated that may be used. It is designed to be user-friendly and contains basic information required to establish and manage work sites in a safe, practical and consistent manner.
