Parking

In North Shore City’s busy town centres, there are often competing demands for parking because of the high numbers of cars and other vehicles in the city.

We try to balance the needs of residents, shoppers, workers and business owners by providing a range of parking - from all-day parking to loading zones and mobility ('disabled') spaces.

Parking on the street is free everywhere except for the centre of Takapuna, which is an increasingly busy business and shopping centre, and where there is great demand for available parking spaces.

Takapuna has pay-and-display machines to ensure there is fair turnaround of spaces. The machines are wireless, solar-powered, and allow drivers to pay for parking by credit card, text message or coins.

Just follow the instructions on the machine and a ticket will be automatically printed. There is an extra 50 cent fee for credit card or text transactions.

Display the ticket prominently on your dashboard. It must be visible. If it cannot be seen, or allowed to slip off the dashboard and is therefore not clearly visible, a ticket may be issued. It is the responsibility of the driver to ensure tickets can be clearly seen.

Hours for pay and display parking are 8am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday. Parking costs $1 per hour, with a minimum payment of 50c.

If your nearest pay-and-display machine is not working, you must find another one and pay for your parking, otherwise you may be ticketed.

There will always be another one close by. They are placed every fifty metres within the pay-and-display zones.
