Inorganic collection
When is it?
The Council's yearly inorganic collection will run from 7 July through to the 21 November.
Is the collection available to everyone?
The collection is available to all households. It is not a business collection.
When should I place my rubbish out for collection?
Households will receive their notifications in their letterboxes three to five days before their collection is due. Residents must wait for an inorganic notice and only place their rubbish out on the dates that the notice advises. The collection will occur within a week from the dates given. Council's contractor has a strict collection schedule and returning to streets over and over again slows down the collection, so please only place your rubbish out on the dates that the notification specifies.
How much rubbish can I put out for collection?
Please do not place out more than the equivalent of one small trailer load of rubbish for collection. Remember that all items collected, apart from steel, will be sent to landfill, so please recycle and re-use items where possible.
What kind of items can I put out for collection?
This service currently collects items such as old furniture, appliances, carpet and bikes. The items must be able to be lifted by two people.

Council will not collect:
- Household rubbish
- Tyres
- Green waste and soil
- Large quantities of timber or demolition material
- Large quantities of concrete, bricks or stone
- Car parts
- Gib board
- Any liquids but especially paint
- CNG / LPG containers
- Oil /petrol containers
- Asbestos
- Other hazardous waste
Noncomplying and hazardous waste
A red ‘sorry’ sticker will be put on any noncomplying or household hazardous waste, which cannot be collected. Any items should be taken to the next Hazmobile collection
For all inquiries regarding asbestos disposal options please refer to any of the places listed.
How should I place my rubbish out for collection?
Inorganic rubbish should be placed neatly on the kerb, keeping piles clear of footpaths, driveways, fire hydrants, trees, power and telephone poles, during the weekend prior to the date the collection begins. These dates will be noted on the inorganic collection notice.
How do I donate items so they do not end up in landfill?
Residents are encouraged to donate or sell items instead of placing them out in the inorganic collection, as all items, apart from steel, end up in the landfill. If the items are in working order, some charities will collect them. The ‘Renew’ resource exchange (telephone 366 2070) may be able to find homes for computers, textiles and demolition material. Please refer to the following websites where items can be advertised for donation:
 |
Auckland Freecycle - An online forum where household objects and discards can be gifted or accepted. |
