Waste Minimisation

Rubbish and inorganic

User-pays refuse

We run a weekly kerbside refuse collection service. We adopted the user pays system in 1990 for two main reasons:

  • To provide a catalyst for householders to separate recyclables from their rubbish.
  • To remove the subsidising of large refuse generators by those producing small amounts of rubbish.

The user-pays system operates through the use of orange prepaid rubbish bags. You can purchase these from our area offices, supermarkets, dairies and major service stations in North Shore City.

You will receive notice of your collection the week before it is due to begin. Please have your rubbish on the kerbside no later than 7.30am on the Monday morning of the collection week.

Unwanted paint and paint cans can be taken to the Resene ColorShop in Wairau Park any day during opening hours. Alternatively, take your paint and paint cans to the Hazmobile collection.
