Wastewise Neighbours -Community Volunteer Network (CVN)

The Wastewise neighbours programme provides a framework for the Waste Prevention Officer - Community (WPOC), to work with volunteers who wish to promote waste reduction in their neighbourhoods and communities. The development of the programme was informed by the NSCC Volunteer strategy.

The program is currently utilised as a passive program in the form of the Watching our Wasteline quarterly newsletter.

The development of a community volunteer network aids community engagement and behaviour change towards waste reduction in a number of areas such as:

  • Working with resident groups to facilitate waste reduction
  • Collecting ongoing feedback from the community regarding organic waste reduction programmes and services.
  • Developing and supporting a network of community composting and demonstration sites across the City.
  • Providing information on a regular basis to households regarding the recycling system and methods to reduce packaging.
Encouraging recycling and packaging waste reduction through continued implementation of the NSCC Solid Waste Education Strategy
