North Shore City Parks

An image of Takapuna beach. Beaches

North Shore City has many beautiful bays and beaches with spectacular marine scenery offering opportunities to swim, boat, fish and relax. More than 140km of coastline allows residents and visitors unparalleled access to maritime activities.

From Long Bay in the north to the tidal flats of Birkenhead, there are beaches, coves, and inlets for playing, fossicking, exploring rock pools and much more.

We provide facilities at beach reserves such as playgrounds, wharves, boat ramps, dinghy lockers and toilets and are committed to maintaining and improving our beach environment. We're continually upgrading our wastewater and stormwater services to meet the community’s expectations of beach water quality.

Beach patrol officers

We employ beach patrol officers during the summer to provide advice for beach users and to enforce bylaws relating to beaches, especially with regard to dog control. Most bylaws relating to beaches relate to the ‘Public Places’ and ‘Dog Control’ sections of our bylaws.
