Enhance and protect our natural environment

  • Does your property have or back onto a stream?
  • Would you like to improve your property's privacy and potentially increase its value by the correct placement of native trees and shrubs?
  • Would you like to reduce erosion and the effects of flooding by planting native trees and shrubs along waterways?

If so, then our Streamside Assistance Programme may be able to help.

Nature is all around us, even in our cities and it's worth protecting. The Streamside Assistance Programme, which is delivered on our behalf by the Kaipatiki Project, provides qualifying residents with:

  • A free garden consultation from an expert advisor
  • Comprehensive information about the best site-specific natives to plant, along with weed and pest eradication information
  • Free native plants
  • A free, one-off garden waste collection.

The programme helps residents who have or border a stream to improve natural habitats on their private property and attract native fish and birds back into our urban areas. In this way we can help to enhance and protect North Shore's unique environment.

With an emphasis on planting natives and controlling pest species to enhance native biodiversity, it will help you to create a backyard that is peaceful and relaxing while improving nature in our neighbourhoods and quality of life in our city.

Controlling weeds and pests ensures that native plants can thrive, encouraging native birds and animals into the area.
