Hazardous substances and dangerous goods
The Environmental Risk Management Authority (ERMA) was established under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act (HSNO Act) and administers all dangerous goods licenses.
To find out whether you may require a license to keep dangerous goods on commercial premises you should enquire with the ERMA or visit their website for more information (see link below).
The council has retained certain statutory enforcement responsibilities of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act and environmental health officers or their dangerous goods contractors can:
- Enforce HSNO Act in public places and private dwellings
- Assess building consents and resource consents that contain or will use hazardous substances or dangerous goods.
The Occupational Safety and Health Service (OSH) enforces the HSNO Act in all places of work.
