Draft Development Plan for Three Streams, Kauri Grove and Serenity Reserve, Albany.
This draft development plan relates to Three Streams, Kauri Grove and Serenity reserves. They are located alongside SH 17 on the Albany Hill. These reserves include three streams and ridges with impressive bird life. The streams converge to drain into Lucas Creek and eventually into the Upper Waitamata Harbour. Historically the Three Streams reserve was developed as an arboretum by John Hogan and was then passed on to the Queen Elizabeth II (QEII Trust). Later, responsibility was transferred to North Shore City.. Over 300 species have been identified. Some 4000 individual trees, including 600 Kauri, have been planted since 1969. This is a young forest with a great future which Kauri, the original endemic species, may eventually dominate again. Its is a wonderful opportunity to study ecological relationships, growth rates and management techniques. A volunteer group incorporated as Friends of Three Streams and Kauri grove exists. North Shore City Council acquired this site from the QE II Trust in 2005. The council now manages the site as an integrated reserve with the other two contiguous reserves (Kauri Grove and Serenity reserve). The Council's vision for these reserves is that they provide an ecological and scenic asset to the city with limited pedestrian access on formed tracks, while also being available for environmental education purposes. The Management plan for these reserves was endorsed by the council in 2006. The North Shore City Council now has prepared a draft Development Plan for Three Stream, Kauri Grove and Serenity Reserve. The Albany Community Board has endorsed the release of the Draft Development Plan for public consultation which identifies, in detail, how the reserves will be developed in the future. We seek feedback from the public and invite you to comment on the proposed plan. The consultation period will run for an 8 weeks period starting from
The Development Plans for the reserve are contained in the following PDF documents.
