St Mary's Pioneer Cemetery St Mary's Pioneer Cemetery is on the corner of Deep Creek Rd and Beach Rd, Torbay. It is open 365 days a year from 6am to 8pm during daylight savings and from 6am to 6pm during winter. As the cemetery is closed, interments can no longer be carried out. History In 1986 the Anglican Church and the East Coast Bays Borough Council agreed that council would take over the management of the cemetery. Since then the Parish Council of St Mary's By the Sea prepared a small area near the church for the purposes of interring the ashes of parishioners. The first ashes interment was in February 2000. Interments of interest The earliest interment recorded here was of Edmund Percy Brett in January 1892. He was the son of the St Mary's By the Sea Anglican Church vicar at the time. While the cemetery was formally closed in September 1972, interments occurred until December 1979.
