Clarifier at Rosedale WastewaterWastewater treatment process

Treating the wastewater we produce protects public health, the local environment and our coast and harbours. Wastewater arrives at North Shore City's treatment plant and goes through a number of processes to make it safe to return to our environment.

When wastewater arrives at the plant we screen it to remove large inorganic solids. After screening the wastewater is separated into what we call a liquids stream and a solids stream, in the primary sedimentation tanks.

Each stream then goes through a range of primary, secondary and tertiary treatment before being reused or discharged to landfill or the environment. We also aim to reduce odour and utilise the gases that are released during the treatment process.
