Rothesay Bay Stream Rothesay Bay Stream assessment

Summary of report findings

Rothesay Bay was the last of the East Coast Bays to be settled by Europeans and remained covered in scrub and ti tree for many years throughout the 1800s following felling of the kauri forest which previously clothed the land.  By 1959 however the area had become essentially largely developed for residential use.  Over the last 40 plus years, remaining areas of rural land and bush have been converted to road, open space and commercial land uses.  Rothesay Bay Stream, like many other east coast streams, is a heavily modified watercourse interspersed with piped, lined and culvert sections and retains very little to no riparian/overhead cover.
