Wastewater: new UV treatment plant commissioned

UV treatmentA new ultra violet (UV) wastewater treatment plant at our Rosedale site was commissioned in December 2003 at a cost of $5.5m.

The plant is situated on the eastern end of the treatment plant site, off Atlas Place. Exposing the effluent to UV light provides a high degree of disinfection of the effluent by killing off bacteria, and is the third and final treatment before the by now greatly improved effluent is discharged out to sea.

The ponds also provide considerable UV treatment, especially in summer, while the new UV plant will operate mostly in winter.
