Stormwater: Enviropod filters

Inspecting the enviropods on Takapuna foreshoreWe have installed more than 300 "Enviropod" filters across the city as part of our programme to tackle the effect stormwater pollution has on our stream and beach water quality.

The synthetic bags supported by a galvanised steel frame are designed to filter out pollutants larger than 0.2 mm in size. They have been installed around Lake Pupuke and where stormwater flows to the beaches in Takapuna, Milford, Birkenhead and Browns Bay.

Depending on the size of the stormwater drain the Enviropod filter can trap up to 50 kg of pollutants, most commonly street litter including soft drink bottles, cigarette butts, tree leaves and sediment. The filters will be cleaned every three months or as required. The performance of the Enviropods will be monitored closely to determine their effectiveness.

If you see an enviropod that is full or damaged please email or contact Actionline on 486 8600 and let us know.
