Safeswim season under way

This summer’s Safeswim programme has begun. Safeswim provides you with information about the water quality at your favourite swimming spot and tells you whether the water is safe for use.

Water quality is tested at six Lake Pupuke sites and 27 popular North Shore beaches every week until Easter. Call 0800 SAFESWIM (0800 72 33 79) or visit our website www.northshorecity.govt.nz for the latest water quality results.

If water quality does not meet national health guidelines, temporary warning signs on bright red posts will be erected - if you see red don’t swim.

To keep safe:

• Do not to swim for 24 hours after heavy rain

• Avoid swimming and playing in streams, stream mouths, stormwater outlets and ‘ponds’ on beaches
