Browns Bay south - stage two under way
This stage involves installing new pipes beneath Sherwood Reserve and Freyberg Park, to connect with the large manhole built beside St Anne’s Hall at the bottom of Glencoe Road last year. The sewers will be built mostly by trenchless methods to reduce disruption to the community and users of the park. However, localised excavations along the sewer route will be required to build manholes and to install the tunnelling machine. Access to these sites will be made locally across the park. In the New Year, a small amount of night work (when flows are at their lowest) will be required to connect the new pipes to the existing sewers, and an excavation will be made in Glencoe Road near St Anne’s Hall to connect the sewer. Traffic will be directed around the excavation, which is likely to cause some disruption to road users for a short period. Businesses, sports clubs and residents along the route will be provided with detailed information during the works. Stage two is expected to be completed in June 2007, with stage three of the upgrade – from Glencoe Close to Beach Road, and a further 300m south along Beach Road – scheduled to begin in January. The Browns Bay upgrade is part of Project CARE, which aims to improve beach water quality. |
