School kids breathe life into local stream

Recently we worked with children from Beach Haven Primary School to restore and revegetate a stream running through the school grounds.

All 350 pupils participated in planting flax, ponga, mahoe, cabbage trees and many other native species along the stream bank to create a native forest habitat that will help reduce flooding, erosion and pollution, and provide shade and food to encourage wildlife.

It also gave the children an opportunity to learn about the link between pollution, the stormwater system, streams and the sea.
We are working with other schools in North Shore City with streams running through their grounds as part of our commitment to improving water quality and educating the community about the environmental effects of water pollution.
