Community spirit alive and well

In coming to the aid of an absent neighbour, a North Shore drainlayer prevented a significant amount of wastewater from flowing into nearby Wairau Stream.

Ben Ulugia of Glenfield noticed wastewater leaking from his neighbour’s property into the roadside gutter, and when there was no answer at the door contacted the council and began work to fix it.

The leak was caused by a major blockage in his neighbour’s wastewater pipe, but because of his quick actions and expertise, he was able to prevent any further wastewater from flowing into the stream.

We would like to say thank you to Ben for his efforts and encourage all others to keep an eagle eye out for signs of wastewater polluting our streams and beaches.

While property owners are responsible for maintaining and repairing pipes on their properties, all wastewater incidents should be reported to Actionline on 486 8600 (24hrs, 7 days).
