Two wastewater projects nearing completion

image of map of TorbayThe $2.3 million project to improve beach water quality at Milford Beach and marina has largely been completed and will be operational in the next few weeks.

The project included construction of the new Margery Pumping Station and a 1.5 kilometre wastewater main between there and the Alma Pumping Station to better handle wastewater from properties in Milford and Castor Bay.

All that remains of this major project are some reinstatement works to return affected areas to original condition.

We would like to thank the community for their support and patience during this project and are proud to have completed another Project CARE milestone, on time and within budget, to improve beach water quality in North Shore City.

The second project has seen the 40-year old pipe bridge that crosses the Kaipatiki Stream repaired at a cost of $110,000.

The pipe bridge supports a wastewater main connected to the Kahika Pumping Station at Beach Haven and a local sewer servicing the Pemberton Avenue area.

Repairs to the concrete and steel structures of the bridge began in February, and will ensure the environmentally sensitive Kaipatiki Stream area is protected from risk of the bridge collapsing.
