Torbay tunnel upgrade

image of map of TorbayAs part of Project CARE, we are upgrading a major sewer tunnel between Torbay and Browns Bay to better cope with existing flows and planned growth in northern East Coast Bays.

The $5 million project will see the 40-year-old sewer replaced with a larger pipe and the 750 metre tunnel it runs through repaired. Work on this project is expected to begin in October and will take about a year to complete.

Once the Torbay Tunnel is finished the next stage of Project CARE will be to upgrade the section of sewer between the tunnel and the new Browns Bay beach front sewer.

This is expected to start in about two year’s time.
