Devonport to Takapuna green route
Weave your way through beautiful parks and avoid the traffic along the new Devonport to Takapuna Green Cycle Route.
The 6km cycleway is perfect for beginner riders, those not so confident along main roads and those who just want a scenic and leisurely ride through parks and quiet streets.
The cycleway is part of the council’s plan to develop a green cycle network for commuters and recreational cyclists. The network will provide safe and attractive cycling routes linking key destinations such as parks, schools, community centres, residential, commercial and employment areas.
Beginner riders can use green routes to gain bike handling skills with confidence in a vehicle-free environment before progressing to cycling as a mode of transport.
More experienced cyclists can take the cycleway to and from work as an alternative or ride it for fun with friends and family.
Look out for the blue cycle route signage to weave your way through the Devonport Shops, Mt Victoria Reserve, Ngataringa Park, Bayswater Park and Northboro Reserve.
Safety
Parts of the route – on Victoria Rd and Lake Rd – are ‘share with care’ paths, where cyclists and pedestrians share the footpath. In these areas, please take care, cycle slowly and watch out for pedestrians.
Pedestrians are likely to use other parts of the route, especially through parks, so watch out for them at all times.
When cycling the on-road parts of the route, watch out for moving vehicles, and cars parking and opening doors.
