The crew on the MV Phil Warren scoops up a wide variety of litter from the Waitemata Harbour including milk bottles and snack food packets. Kayaks or a flat-bottomed punt are used to clean along the shoreline and beaches as well as in estuaries and mangrove areas.
Removing litter this way is very labour intensive – the best way to achieve a cleaner harbour is to prevent litter from entering the environment in the first place.
Please see the how you can help link if you are interested in volunteering, or if you would like more information about reducing rubbish.
Remember, what you drop on the ground ends up in our waterways!
