Electronic waste is one of the fastest growing waste types. e-Waste contains many toxic materials which are harmful to the environment when sent to the landfill.
e-Waste includes:
- computer hardware (laptops, monitors, keyboards)
- networking equipment
- scanners
- mice
- speakers
- ink jet cartridges
- game consoles
- mobile phones
e-Waste does not include whiteware, televisions or photocopiers.
Unfortunately at present there is a cost involved in computer recycling. Costs are incurred because the computers need to be sent overseas to be recycled.
Another option is buy refurbished computers from The Ark Computers who will then also recycle your old computer.
The Auckland Regional Council has compiled a list of materials that are able to be recycled in the Auckland region, including e-Waste.
