Inorganic rubbish should be placed neatly on the kerb, keeping piles clear of: footpaths, driveways, fire hydrants, trees, and power and telephone poles. It should be put out only on the dates the leaflet advises.
How do I donate items so they do not end up in landfill?
Residents are encouraged to donate or sell reusable items instead of placing them out in the inorganic collection. If the items are in working order, some charities will collect them. Please refer to the following websites where items can be advertised for donation:
Auckland Freecycle - an online forum where household objects and discards can be gifted or accepted.
DonateNZ- links donations from businesses and individuals to schools, childcare centres and charities. Large variety of items accepted including paper and other art supplies, electronic goods, etc.
eCycle - This community electronics recycling project is a New Zealand first and provides an everyday solution for electronic items that is both convenient and offers responsible handling, dismantling and recycling of e-waste. There are some low cost charges for items to assist the drop off locations and recyclers to recover operations and logistics costs. Electronic items are either refurbished and sold at a low cost to low income households and community groups; or dismantled and recycled in NZ (where possible). The scheme is supported by the Ministry for the Environment.
