Permanent Liquor Bans

Overnight liquor ban areas

Following council resolution permanent overnight liquor bans (10pm to 6am during daylight savings and 9pm to 6am during the rest of the year) are in force.

The overnight liquor bans apply to public areas (under council jurisdiction) within the defined liquor ban areas as follows:

Albany

• The area surrounding Westfield Shopping Centre with the boundary of the liquor ban area being Don McKinnon Drive.

Birkenhead-Northcote

• All beach and foreshore areas and adjoining carparks
• Birkenhead War Memorial Domain (including Mahara Avenue, John Court Street and Recreation Drive)
• Birkenhead/Highbury town centre from Birkenhead Avenue to the public carpark area between Rawene Road and Huka Road to Mokoia Road and linking to Mahara Avenue and Birkenhead War Memorial Domain
• Chelsea Estate Heritage Park, Birkenhead

Devonport

• Cheltenham and Narrowneck beaches including Woodall reserve carpark and the streets adjoining Cheltenham beach
• Ngataringa Park (including the walkway from the end of Victoria Road through to the park).
• Devonport Central Including the coastal strip from Torpedo Bay Wharf to the end of the carpark at Queens Parade (Queens Parade)
• Stanley bay foreshore area (Stanley Bay Park)
• Bayswater Reserve area (down to Bayswater Wharf) (Quinton Park)
• The Landsdowne Road to Sandy Bay Reserve area (Sandy Bay Reserve)
• George Gair Reserve (off Winscombe Street)  - (Gair Lookout)
• Belmont Shops - extending along Lake Road from Corella Road to just past the intersection of Bayswater Avenue, Lake Road and Williamson Avenue. The liquor ban area includes the public areas around the shops and the rose garden reserve

East Coast Bays

• All beach and foreshore reserve areas and adjoining carparks
• Mairangi Bay CBD including the carpark areas, Montrose Terrace to the beach and Sidmouth Street to the beach where there is already an overnight liquor ban in place. The liquor ban is from 10pm to 6am during the period of daylight savings and 9pm to 6am during the rest of the year. The liquor ban takes effect from 17 September 2010.
• Torbay CBD, Rock Isle Road, Grey Crescent, the cul-de-sac in Cliff Road and Beach Road from Torbay CBD to Long Bay Beach including the carpark in front of MERC and the Anglican Retreat. The liquor ban is from 10pm to 6am during the period of daylight savings and 9pm to 6am during the rest of the year. The liquor ban takes effect from 17 September 2010.

Glenfield

• Manuka beach foreshore reserve area
• Marlborough Park
• Downing Street Domain

Takapuna

• Takapuna Business District - includes the parts of Hurstmere Rd and Anzac St and all public areas within the following street borders - Earnoch Ave/Killarney Street to The Terrace/Lake Road to Blomfield Spa
• Byron Avenue to the reserve area off Barry's Point Road (including Auburn Reserve) to the Pupuke Road/Anzac Street intersection to Auburn Street and linking back to Killarney Street
• All beach and foreshore reserve areas and adjoining carparks
• The reserve and carpark areas surrounding Lake Pupuke
• Killarney Street pay carpark
• Anzac Street pay carpark
• Poenamo carpark - the liquor ban covers the public carpark adjacent to the Poenamo Hotel and Takapuna Golf Club and extends overnight from 7pm to 7am. The liquor ban took effect from 16 July 2010

Citywide

• Council park-and-ride bus stations

24-hour liquor ban areas

Northcote Central (including Northcote Town Centre)

• Includes all of the public area extending from the intersection of Lake and Exmouth Roads to the intersection of College and Exmouth Roads. The 24-hour liquor ban area includes the public areas of the Northcote Town Centre, Greenslade Reserve, Lindesfarne Reserve and Cadness Loop Reserve.
