Parks strategy
The North Shore City Council is working hard to ensure residents are well catered for in regard to beautiful parks and effective public spaces.
We want to continue to maintain and develop these elements of the city, by providing a wide range of public spaces for a variety of uses, upholding key environmental values, and planning for the positive future of our parks.
The Parks Strategy (PDF 2MB) outlines in more detail the ongoing future direction of the city’s parks.
The Strategy is intended as a guide to:
- Provide a strategic framework for the provision and management of parks
- Establish a clear sense of direction and provide a focus for resource allocation and action on the ground
- Identify the linkages and actions between plans and strategies (both within and outside the council) to promote better quality parks in the city
- Encourage continuing community and stakeholder involvement and partnership in the development of parks.
Reserve management plans
Reserve Management Plans set out the council’s objectives and policies for the use, development, maintenance, protection and preservation of a reserve. They can be prepared for either individual reserves or for a group of similar reserves.
Their purpose is to protect the environmental and cultural values of reserves, while at the same time providing for the appropriate recreational needs of the community.
The process of preparing these plans gives an opportunity to the public to contribute to policy and decisions on matters that will affect the future of the reserve. To view plans currently open for public feedback, see the consultations page.
Once a management plan is adopted by the council it is kept under continuous review. If necessary, it may be altered in keeping with changing circumstances or in the light of new information.
