Trees and other plants

Trees are an integral part of the North Shore environment. They add to the attractiveness of our city and provide shelter and shade and a safe haven for birds, insects and other animals. The information in this section will help with looking after your trees and also provides details on the rules and regulations regarding protected trees.

The Resource Management (Simplifying and Streamlining) Amendment Act was passed by Parliament, and from Thursday 1 October 2009 there have been changes to the laws around trimming trees/vegetation on your property.

Moving towards a single council
The councils in the Auckland region have been working cooperatively to move smoothly to the new Auckland Council on 1 November 2010.

The cooperation has helped us standardise the most popular Resource Consent online information and produce a single set of associated forms, which you can use now at any local government organisation in the Auckland area. This includes resource consent regarding trees.
