Where can I exercise my dog?
Most dogs require regular exercise and generally well exercised dogs are less likely to create or exhibit problems.
Off-leash areas
There are a large number of parks and reserves within North Shore City. Dogs may be exercised off a lead on all parks and reserves (with the exception of marked playing fields, within 10m of children’s play areas and any other prohibited area as specified below) provided the dog is under control, can respond to voice command and is not causing a nuisance.
Dogs may also be exercised off a lead on beaches and foreshores provided the dog is under control, can respond to voice command and is not causing a nuisance (with the exception of the period from 10am to 6.30pm during daylight savings when dogs are restricted from these areas).
Dogs may be exercised at several coastal locations throughout the year. The daylight saving restrictions do not apply to the following coastal locations:
- Attwood Road wharf reserve area, Paremoremo
- Rahui Beach, Greenhithe
- Soldiers Bay Beach, Birkenhead
- Chelsea Bay Beach, Birkenhead
- St Leonards Beach, Takapuna
