The North Shore City Council have a section of the city bylaw that refers to the keeping of animals, bees and/or poultry. This part of the bylaw regulates the keeping of animals within the district so that they do not create a danger, a nuisance or a health hazard. These activities may also be subject to controls under the District Plan. There are specific controls on pig, poultry and bee keeping, and also goats, sheep and cats. There are controls on the housing of animals and the noise from animals.
The council also have a section of the city bylaw that refers to the slaughter of stock. The purpose of this part of the bylaw is to prevent the slaughtering of stock on private residential properties.
