Working with residents

North Shore people value their environment. Our beaches, parks and reserves are treasured by our residents and we are working with people who want to do that little bit extra in their communities or at home to protect their natural environment.

The North Shore City Council facilitates environmental education by providing information, tools and support so people can make choices that have less of a negative impact on the planet.

We have a number of hands-on environmental programmes available for individuals, community groups, businesses and schools to participate in.

What we do

• Offer free composting courses.
• Offer free support for qualifying streamside residents (including a garden consultation from an expert, plant and weed advice  and free native plants).
• Support our local Environment Centre.
• Support community initiatives,  like Sustainable Paremoremo.
• Showcase great ideas at the North Shore Home and Garden Show.
• Support residents to volunteer.

What you can do

• Enrol for a free composting course.
• Book in some free advice and resources to look after your stream.
• Get financial support and install insulation at home.
• Download Sustainable Living information and check sheets.
• Become a volunteer.
• Call the Energy Advice line if you are deciding on energy efficient options or upgrades for your home - 0800 388 588.
• Visit the Kaipatiki Project   or Sustainable Living Centre for great ideas, courses and advice.
