Quality childcare
Sunnynook Community Crèche is a non-profit community early childhood centre. It is run on a session-by-session basis with children of mixed ages and provides quality early childhood education and care.
The centre's programme is based on Te Whaariki which is the New Zealand Early Childhood Education curriculum. The crèche is available to families / whanau from all areas to provide support in a friendly, caring atmosphere. Our costs are very reasonable with the aim of making our service accessible to all of the families in our community.
We are licensed by the Ministry of Education to have 25 children per session - 10 under two-year-olds and 15 over two-year-olds.
You can access our latest ERO report on the Ministry of Education website.
Our philosophy
To provide an environment where every child and their family feel safe, secure and nurtured; where each child's self esteem is developed and where their play is valued as meaningful learning experiences.
"Children’s learning and development are fostered if the well-being of their family and community is supported; of their family, culture knowledge and community are respected; and if there is a strong connection and consistency among all of the aspects of a child’s world." Te Whaariki, Ministry of Education, 1996.
Our staff
Our staff are qualified and registered teachers. All of our teachers are competent and confident educators who all have many years of experience working with young children and their families.
Donations
Our crèche donation is $12 per child per session. If there is more than one sibling per session, we request $18 per family. Session donations are re- invested into equipment and materials to support our children’s learning and development.
Session times
Our daily session times are:
- Morning - 9am to 12pm
- Afternoon - 1pm to 3.30pm (excluding Wednesday)
Bookings
Our waiting list bears testimony to our reputation and has a current waiting period of 10 months or more. We aim to provide high quality early childhood education within our community for as many children as possible. So we request that if your child is attending other centres (e.g.; kindy, daycare, playcentre), he/she comes to only one crèche session per week.
Session programme
Each of our sessions is based on the principles and strands of Te Whaariki (New Zealand’s Early Childhood Curriculum). We encourage and support freedom of choice for our children. The way in which we do this is to set up challenging and interesting experiences for each child to enjoy and explore on a session by session bases.
Each child learns in his or her own way. It is our role to provide an environment that encourages and supports children strengths and interests. By providing children freedom of choice we are encouraging them to take responsibility for their own learning at their own individual pace.
By supporting our children in this way we are encouraging them to become competent and confident learners. Te Whaariki, Ministry of Education, 1996.
