Sunnynook Community Centre is registered as an incorporated society and directed by a management committee comprised of volunteers from the local community and community groups. These people regularly use the centre and feel they would like some input into its running.
The management committee employs two co-ordinators to manage the operational running of the centre, which includes funding applications and the associated reporting. They are also responsible for the organisation of the annual family fun day.
An important aspect of our community centre are the volunteers who help out with various tasks as the need arises. The main volunteer focus is the smooth running of our annual fun day.
Our aim is to take into account the needs of the local community, so the scheduling of the centre's timetable is arranged to provide maximum accessibility to all sections of the community.
For the kids
The crèche offers quality childcare at a reasonable rate to give mothers time out. Bays North Harbour and Waitemata Parent Centre run new baby courses from the centre.
During the school holidays we provide a daily programme of craft activities and scheduled trips for primary school children. Brownies, Pippins and many childrens' dance groups meet at the centre during term-time, providing an opportunity for children to follow their interests and learn new skills, including ballet, jazz and tap dancing.
For adults, new settlers and cultural groups

We run English classes at an intermediate level, three days a week, and beginner English classes two afternoons a week.
Community groups for individual cultures, including Chinese, Korean and Japanese, are run from the centre. Their activities vary from kindy through to dancing and cultural celebrations.
The centre also provides many interest groups where adults can follow their interests and socialise or keep fit, such as rock ‘n' roll, belly dancing, Zumba, creative memories and rhythmic exercise classes.
For the elderly and disabled
The centre provides support for elderly and disabled people. We have ladies and mixed Probus clubs who meet regularly. We also have a Centre for Mutual Aid, where elderly and disabled people are provided with morning tea, lunch and activities. An Auckland Asthma Society support group also congregates at Sunnynook.
For the entire community
Each summer we hold the Family Fun Day, which brings together the whole community for an evening of entertainment and games. Later in the year we hold a shared lunch to bring together the many cultures who use our centre, and let them share each other's foods and interesting cultural items.
We hope to see you at Sunnynook Community Centre soon.
