The New Zealand Disability Strategy is founded on the vision of a fully inclusive society. North Shore City shares this vision, with a desire to work together to make our city a place where people of all abilities are supported and included in all aspects of life.
The North Shore Disability Strategy was launched by Mayor Andrew Williams in April 2009. This strategy (available to view under Related Documents) was developed through a collaborative approach by representatives of the disability community, disability sector organisations, North Shore City Council and Waitemata District Health Board.
Together, these parties formed the Disability Strategy Steering Group, which led a process of consultation with the disabled community and carers, service providers and the non-disabled community, ensuring that the Strategy has a broad perspective and ownership by the wider North Shore community.
The steering group has now established a plan to disseminate the strategy and engage the community, business and government and non-government agencies to play their part. By working together to achieve the goals of the strategy we can all contribute to creating a city that values people of all abilities.
Phab North Shore is providing an umbrella for the Disability Strategy Steering Group and, with Council support, the implementation plan is under way. For further information contact Actionline on 09 486 8600
