North Shore City Council is committed to celebrating and preserving local heritage and you can discover the many initiatives we’ve set in place to do so.
Along with identifying and protecting specific buildings, places and archaeological sites through the district plan, council has produced a series of walking tour brochures which you can use to explore historic areas of the city.
Council has also worked with the University of Auckland’s School of Architecture to produce a collection of artistic postcards that celebrate houses built in North Shore City between 1942 and 1961. The buildings represent a unique New Zealand response to modern architecture.
In addition, the North Shore Heritage Trust has been established to inspire community based conservation of the city’s heritage, principally through administration of a small grants programme.
