Creative New Zealand, the Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa, is the Government agency responsible for the support and development of the arts in New Zealand.

It is funded by the Lottery Grants Board from the profits taken by Lotto and associated games. Funding is distributed at a national and a local level.

Under a partnership arrangement between Creative New Zealand and Local Councils, funding is provided on a per capita basis for the Creative Communities Scheme to support community based arts projects.

North Shore City’s assessment committee is comprised of four Councillors and four representatives from the arts community. It meets twice a year and considers applications requesting funding more than $500.

Applications are open for the first round for 2008/09 August 25, 2008 until September 19 2008.

The Committee will meet on 3 October, 2008 and all decisions will be notified to the applicant by mail. Individuals and organisations seeking funding for arts projects or initiatives in this funding round should be advised that

Projects should not be started BEFORE funding is advised on 3 October. We anticipate the date of your proposed project to occur sometime between mid October and April/May 2009.

Project Funding: Grants of less than $500

At the recent Grants Assessment Subcommittee (Arts), a decision was made to change the current cycle for the assessment of Small Grant applications (for amounts up to $500). Until now, we have been receiving and assessing Small Grant applications on a monthly basis, which applications being received by the 10th of each month being assessment within that month and applicants advised accordingly.

It is now proposed that the assessment of Small Grants will be undertaken only every TWO months, and assessment be undertaken by the full Grants Subcommittee (Arts) on the following dates:

Please note the next funding assessment meeting following the summer break will not be held until February, 2009.

Dates for 2009 will be advertised in the North Shore Times in November 2008, and also posted on the Council’s website at this time.
